The photomagazine DER GREIF invites photographers and authors for the fifth time, to submit their works. Via takepart.dergreif-online.de, up to 10 works can be submitted – without thematic restriction. Deadline is November 18th, 2011.

DER GREIF works differently then usual photography-magazines. Instead of showing portfolios or journalistic essays, DER GREIF rather makes the works of different photographers and authors encounter. The editors combine the selected works to create new photographic and textual compositions. The interplay of the works is the main focus.

The trust of the artists in the sensitivity of the editors makes DER GREIF an exceptional wholistic art work.

There are too many choices and everything is possible. So many doubts.

FUCK YOU SUNSET is a book made by Janneke de Jong for a graduation project. The book starts with a story about wanting to get away and leave everything behind in search for freedom. Seven writers wrote a story about their freedom or their search for freedom. Their beautiful stories made you think about you’re own life. Do I live in freedom? Is this what I really want to do with my life? Or do I want to hit the gas and run…

With no one to tell you how to live your live or spend your time And if anyone would dare to try, you’d hunt them down, stick them up, and wipe them from your memory You’d slash the tires of the ones that trie to follow and leave them in a ditch You’ll let nobody impose upon you their rules, or ask questions you don’t want to answer And though they may try, they’ll never catch you Because you’re quicker than the wind…

The stories come together with beautiful photos made by Janneke de Jong. The photos show roads and empty landscapes. You could say that the photos let you feel freedom. The freedom many people look for, but never will find.

FUCK YOU SUNSET

The theme of Böhm #38 is the Airlines-Plane-collection. Markus Schaden and Katja Stuke both share an enthuthiasm about planes and the craziness of planespotting. This newspaper-like magazine has two sides. One side with photos of planes, the photos are a selection of Markus Schadens huge planespotter-photo-collection. The second side shows the photos of the beautiful project »As yet Untitled« by Katja Stuke.

In-n-Out Burger, a drive-through fastfood company plays a central role in the planespotter-photo-collection and of course explains the title of the magazine.

I love the wonderful project by Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber and I hope they will continue making this beautiful magazines.

After waking up (I was still dreaming of being the editor in chief of Ein Magazin über Orte) I realized that if www.ilovethatphoto.net ever will be an offline magazine, it will look like Ein Magazin über Orte.

Ein Magazin über Orte is an biannual magazine from Berlin. Every issue is about another theme. This time it’s about Meer / Sea.

Die Flut steigt / The flood it is gathering
Bald wird sie alles überschwemmen / Soon it will move
Jedes Dauch und jedes Tal / Across every shoreline, Against every roof
Der Körper wird untergehen / The body will drown
Die Seele verreisen / And the soul will shake loose
Ich schreib das zwar auf / I write all this down
Doch ich kann’s nicht beweisen / But I don’t have the proof

Sinai 1973
Leonard Cohen Die Flut / The Flood

The magazine combines photography and text as if it belongs together.

Ich liebe Ein Magazin über Orte.

Elisabeth. What’s wrong? Your photos tell something. There’s something not right. Are you happy?

“Your harsh opinions and witty remarks; the medicines that were prescribed for you can help. Everything will be all right.”

Mariken Wessels constructs her own story. With postcards, photographs and letters of a young woman founded in a little shop in Amsterdam.

“Talk to doctor E, take his advice.”

All the postcards and letters together with the photos in the book form a beautiful story. Elisabeth is ill. Mentally ill. She gets postcards from Aunt Hans who maybe is even crazier. The picture on the cover of the book says everthing. It is a portrait of Elisabeth cut in half. In my opinion it represents the personality of Elisabeth beautifully.

This book combines art and photography. The more you look in the book, the more you see in it. The story of Elisabeth grabs you.

“I feel very much better. I want to see you but you’re not in Holland. Can you come please. I want to eat. “

After reading the book, I truly want to know: ‘What happened to Elisabeth?’

Out of sheer curiosity Jacco Kranenburg purchased advertising space on humans to promote his design studio for over two years. The results can be seen in this magazine.

Human billboards exist for a long time, but eBay made it fully transparant. Now, anyone can offer himself as a human billboard.

Reading this magazine and looking at some bizarre photos, a lot of questions come to mind. Why are so many people interested in being a human billboard? And is this effective advertising? According to Jacco: “One thing that struck me was the utter confidence with which the different providers presented themselves. Without an exception, they were all convinced that they could provide unique and valuable advertising opportunities.”

The motives for being a human billboard vary from “just for fun”, boredom, financial trouble to plain exhibitionism. The highest bid Jacco offered was $75.00 for placing his web address on someones forehead. This person who is a Multiple Sclerosis sufferer used all the money he raised from the auction for his mission to help find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. Like all other providers he send some photos with the advertisement on his forehead. I think this is the most interesting about the magazine because it provide us some beautiful views into the personal lives of the human billboards.

This magazine is the beautiful result of an fascinating project.
